1835 COFFEE LAB achieves its first commitment to the environment and the protection of the Galápagos islands.

 

In the difficult task of preserving the environment and the fragile ecosystems of the Galapagos through responsible and respectful practices with the natural environment, from October 15 of this year, 1835 COFFEE LAB will support the Charles Darwin Scientific Foundation in the various projects of research for the conservation of the ecosystems that it develops, through an annual economic donation, which will be collected directly from sales of the coffee originating in the Galapagos Islands.

We are excited, that just a few months after the birth of 1835 COFFEE LAB we have reached this important goal, supporting the Charles Darwin Scientific Foundation in its research and complementary actions for the conservation of Galapagos habitat.

We believe that being an active member in the search and implementation of sustainable practices in Galapagos, is and will remain in the future as a basic pillar of the company, therefore we will continue to promote our own initiatives and cooperation agreements with all those institutions that promote good environmental, social and / or fair and equitable economic distribution practices.

1835 COFFEE LAB recognizes, respects and considers the interests of the community and responds to their concerns through activities and projects that link them and contribute to improving their quality of life.

Fulfilling the social responsibility objectives proposed in its business policies, 1835 COFFEE LAB will support the Arabesque Dance Center of San Cristobal Island, which on October 6, 2018 will participate in the contest organized by the Inter-American Confederation of Dance Professionals ” CIAD “representing Galapagos and Ecuador, an event that will take place in the city of Madrid – Spain.

“CIAD” is a movement that was born with the idea of ​​developing better opportunities for young people, generating resources for the development of dance in Latin American countries and that performs this type of event in order to provide children and young people opportunities for them to have experiential experiences through dance that help them become visionary and integral human beings.

The children and young people of the Arabesque Dance Center of San Cristobal Island will be our ambassadors and in charge of carrying a beautiful message of conservation and care of the Galápagos environment, being dance, as well as their passion, an instrument of communication.

1835 COFFEE LAB on the Earth’s Day

As you may know, 1835 Coffee Lab work based on sustainability lines, due to it, we are activly working with public and private initiatives for the Environment. In this time we were part of the declaratory against the use of plastics, realized in Galapagos for the Earth’s Day.

Here we have some interest topics found by the World Economic Forum.

  1. Oceans and seas are being contaminated with 8 millions of tons of plastic wastes per year approximately.
  2. 70% of the plastics in the oceans and seas, go to the bottom of it, just the 30% of all the wastes stay over the surface.
  3. Worldwide there are five islands of wastes, distributed through the Atlantic, Indic and Pacific Oceans.
  4. Plastics production on Earth is growing without being stopped, for 2020, there will be 500 million tons of plastics produced per year.
  5. Between 2002 and 2013, there was an increase of the 50% of the plastics production.

Brief introduction about coffee and its presence in Ecuador…

Coffee is one of the most consumed stimulant drinks in the world, although there are countries that have not developed habits in their consumption, the infusion that delights for its smell and flavor.

America because of the geographical and climatic characteristics has all the conditions to cultivate coffee especially with the varieties Arabica (Coffea arabica) and robusta (Coffea canephora), as well as varieties Caturra, Bourbon, Typica, Gesha, among others. In Latin America, the coffee zones of Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Central America, Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador and the Caribbean, Cuba.

Ecuador is a country of the Latin American which produces, and almost exclusively, coffee of the Arabica species, being one of the largest exporters in the world of this variety. The surface assigned to the agricultural field is almost 30% of the country extending the cultivation of coffee by the east coast and the north of the country.
